The Helderberg area encompasses the towns of Gordon's Bay, Lwandle, Macassar, Sir Lowry's Pass, Somerset West and Strand. The Hottentots Holland and Helderberg Mountain Ranges provide a majestic backdrop to the picturesque vineyards and the spectacular False Bay coastline.
If you enjoy adventure sports like paragliding, sandboarding, surfing and body boarding than this area definitely has something for you.
When you sign up for an adrenalin pumping day of paragliding and sandboarding, you will fly from your starting point to the end via an unforgettable scenic route of the Helderberg Mountains and surrounding areas.
If you like the sea and anything to do with water then you won't be bored when visiting this area.
While you are visiting take time out to do some whale watching from Gordon's Bay and surrounds or visit the Penguins that live at Stony Point in Betty's Bay. If you want to relax just go to, some of the best beaches South Africa has to offer for sunbathing, swimming or surfing, Strand Beach, Bikini Beach (Gordon's Bay), Kogelbay and Hangklip.
You can also enjoy deep sea fishing and angling with a bounty of Steenbras, Galjoen, Cob, Red Roman, Cape Salmon and more to fish for.
Mad about nature? Then a walk in the Helderberg Nature Reserve, Harold Porter Botanical Garden or Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens is a must. At these places one can go on hikes through some of South Africa's most spectacular scenery and experience the mountains full of fynbos.
Enjoy a round of golf at one of the many wonderful courses in the Area. Within a 10 minute drive you are at a driving range and three 18 hole-golf-courses, the Erinvale Course (designed by Gary Player), Somerset West Country Club and Strand Golf Club and within an hours drive you have a further 15 courses at your disposal.
If you are a wine expert then you will enjoy the Helderberg Wine Route with Vergelegen Wine Estate (the second oldest wine estate in the Southern Hemisphere). Go to the wine farms in the area for an afternoon in a peaceful setting cooled by summer breezes while you enjoy a glass or two of some of South Africa's best wines on offer.
Other attractions in the area are the 2 infamous craft markets situated in Somerset West, which are fast becoming world known for their many handcrafted items. Also enjoy a morning out with the kids and go to Monkeytown to view more than 25 types of exotic primate species, or take a drive and enjoy the rest of the wonderful Cape and Surrounds.
